The brief was to create a Butterfly to defy the laws of gravity! A clever combination of duplexed Colorplan with circular curtain weights embedded in the wings resulted in a piece Einstein would be proud of!      

TYPO London was a three-day conference offering up to 40 presentations from the heart of London. TYPO conferences were birthed in the desktop publishing revolution of the 1990s and overtime, events have become a broad based representation of the creative industry, cultural and social issues and as the name suggests, a contemporary commentary on graphic design, typography and communication from the word up. 2011 was the inaugural year for TYPO London and the speaker programme was deliberately broad, attempting to cover these bases through aspects of visual communication, film, emerging media, design, education, technology, information and typography.

TYPO London invited Georgia Fendley, Founder of Construct and Brand Director of Mulberry to join the list of speakers. Although Georgia declined the invitation, she decided that she could offer her support in another way. Hence the ‘TYPO London Speakers Dinner’ was born. In the spirit of a real welcome to our London home, Georgia hosted a dinner in the heart of Soho on the last evening of the event. The location was at a candle lit 68 Dean Street, one of London’s surviving Georgian houses, and the food was beautifully cooked and served by the team run by Melanie Arnold and Margo Henderson formally of The French House and part of the legendary St John family.

To thank the speakers, and to celebrate and remember the evening, Georgia asked the artist Paul Davis to create individual portraits of each of the speakers and other friends and guests that attended. Some were created on the night itself to capture the energy and excitement of the evening; others were created later from notes and sketches and found images. TYOPFACES the book is the result of that collaboration between Construct and Paul Davis, a limited edition of 100 copies, with each guest receiving a signed individual portrait, the print mounted and sitting within a copy of the book containing all the portraits.

The book was designed by Construct, and digitally printed by Gavin Martin Colournet Limited, on paper kindly supplied by GF Smith.

We’ve also been granted the Carbon Smart Blue Award. We use vegetable inks as much as possible, and have our own waste management and control programme. To find out more, you can read our complete Environmental policy.

The Autumn/Winter 2012 collection was inspired by Maurice Sendak’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ as well as textural furry fabrics and mysterious prints. We played a part by helping with an incredible array of foil blocked, debossed and die-cut items on Mirri Board.

The pieces included a giant key which doubled as an invitation to the Catwalk Show and an array of beautiful and scary Monsters on various metallic stocks.

These are to coincide with an exhibition at Kemistry entitled, Mind over Matter. The exhibition brings together a collection of original material and notes from Alan Fletcher’s archive, documenting thirty or so years of attentive curiosity by Alan, at large.

Alan Fletcher belongs to that elite international group of designers who have transcended the conventional boundaries of their craft. He was a member of the now legendary design consultancy Fletcher Forbes Gill, and a founding partner of the international design group Pentagram. Whilst as Consultant Art Director at Phaidon, he not only set high design standards for its art, architecture and design books, but worked with a generation of younger designers as well as to tell his design story by publishing his own books.

 These are light weight maps printed on 90gsm Starfine from Fenner Paper. They are die creased then hand cross folded to form an interesting cravat style shape that is drilled in one position. These are then  hung on a purpose made stand in the same shape as the maps. The maps were featured in the Daily Mail’s You Magazine.

With new features such as capability to print special colours and opaque white. Additional capacity to print on materials from 60gsm to 500gsm.

Gavin Martin Colournet was fortunate to be involved with producing the range of promotional printed literature which included swatch books, fan swatches, teaser mailers, brochures posters and invitations using an array of printing techniques which include laser cutting, screen printing, foil blocking, litho printing and digital printing.

The project was designed and commissioned by Blast for Arjowiggins Creative Papers. The launch venue held at the Old Truman Brewery Hanbury Street E1 was a great success. See Blasts web site for more information.
